Where to begin, darling one? Where to begin in telling you what a marvelous, wild, whimsical, journey life can be! When I was much younger, I received a good word from a spiritual mentor of mine that I want to share with you now. At the time, I was on the verge of making (what felt like) a very big decision and I was having much difficulty making up my mind. It was then Barb, my mentor, said to me: “Meredith, would you rather take a drive through the Plains of Nebraska or through the Mountains of Colorado?” Initially I held back a laugh, because the answer seemed too obvious to me. But I responded politely, simply saying, “The Mountains.” To which Barb calmly replied, “Most people would.” She went on, explaining, “The drive through Nebraska leaves little to the imagination; it is a straight road through flat land where everything ahead of you (and behind you) is in clear view. There are very little surprises or twists and turns to be had. It’s an easy drive, but not necessarily an exciting one.” She paused before continuing, “ When you drive through Colorado you never know what’s next. The road winds and curves and pulls you up, up, and around. You never quite know what’s about to happen, what view you are about to behold- but you can guarantee it be beautiful, breathtaking even. You need to trust that God is going to lead the way and not lead you off of the edge. Driving through the mountains is the opposite of easy, but it is the epitome of glory and splendor.”
All of that was a long way to tell you this: I hope you choose the mountains, too. I hope you dare greatly, and venture in to places and experiences that are unfamiliar and uncharted, but you have faith enough to know they’ll be worth it. I hope you trust God to guide you, to fill you with life abundant, to reveal to you His majesty through all He has created. I hope you let go (enough) to allow yourself to feel the full range of emotions- to love deeply, and hurt deeply, and rejoice deeply. I hope you never do anything halfway. I hope you offer grace to yourself, and likewise extend it freely to others. I hope you embrace mistakes as opportunities to become better. I hope you remain kind even when the world is not. I hope you realize you are on purpose, and you have absolute worth and significance simply because you are.
Lastly, I hope you know how privileged I feel to call you mine. All my love, Always.
